Clinical Work with Individuals

I work with children, adolescents and adults who have difficulties coping with daily stress, such as problems related to family, friends or relationships, work frustrations, academic challenges, low self-esteem, sexuality, peer pressure, behavioral problems, loss and life transitions. I work with clients who are feeling anxious or depressed.

Kids and Teens
For children and adolescents, talking to a therapist helps improve functioning in the social, familial and academic environments. I teach social and emotional skills and work on confidence building. With younger kids, I offer creative play through games, drawings, dolls and other methods and talk therapy, depending on the age and need of the client. For adolescents, I offer a safe, non-judgmental space for them to share their struggles and express their feelings. The teen years are very hard and it is helpful for them to have someone to trust and talk to who isn’t their parent. I also am happy to talk to and brainstorm with teachers to find solutions for classroom problems.

When I work with children (and some adolescents), many times I expect parents to be involved and active participants in their child’s treatment. During parent check-ins we will discuss situations at home and brainstorm ways to get the child back on track for healthy development. Parents will acquire parenting skills and strategies and learn effective communication to use at home - since home is where change happens.

Young Adults
I also work with young adults going through life transitions, helping them find their new identity and gain confidence and independence.
Together we navigate challenges involving college stress, relationships, friendships, sexuality, finding a career, deciding where to live and how to create a new life as an adult.
